Race the River 2025: May the Swell be Ever in Your Favour

On Sunday, May 4th, Sync or Swim kicked off race season in style (and sunscreen) at the Race the River: Dragon Boat Regatta in beautiful Campbell River. With 15 teams (11 women’s and 4 mixed) it was a stacked field and a force-filled day (yes, there was a Star Wars theme…)

Hosted at Dick Murphy Park on Tyee Spit, the setting was as stunning. Each race spanned 350 meters and winning times were based on the cumulative total. Our crew came out flying and actually posted the fastest women’s time of the first race at 1:49:96. Unfortunately… the universe had other plans and despite our best efforts, we missed the podium by a heartbreaking 11 milliseconds in the end. So close!

Final Women’s Standings
- VIP – 5:25:11
- Nusa’lon Dragons – 5:39:57
- Chix with Stix – 5:43:05
- Sync or Swim – 5:43:16

Huge shout out to River Spirit for hosting such a well-run, feel-good regatta. It was such a great way to kick-off the racing season. And massive thanks to our guest paddlers from VI Paddling and Angels Abreast. You powered us forward with spirit and strength.

The sun was shining, the water was calm and it was the perfect way to shake off the winter dust and welcome some new teammates into the boat. Our muscles were sore, our hearts were full, and our paddles are ready for the next challenge.
