SOS Survive Super Sprints!

Sync or Swim headed back to Victoria for the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club Super Sprints
a full day of short, fast, all-out 200m racing.

The Super Sprints are blink-and-you-miss-it racing at its finest. Fast starts, quick races, and no room for anything other than full commitment over 200 metres.

The Heat:

Straight into race mode right off the line -
We pushed hard taking 200 metres in  0:58.351 seconds!

The Semi:

Another super strong race in 0:59.267 seconds where everyone dug deep to earn us our place in the Grand Consolation Final.
(The nice thing about sprint racing is it’s over before your lungs can properly file a complaint!).

The Final:

Best race of the day when it mattered most…. 0:58.987 seconds worth of fiery fury!

For those new to dragon boat racing, the festival formats can be a bit of a puzzle! At this event, the six fastest teams advance to the top division. From there, they split into two final races of three boats each: the Grand Final (competing for the medal spots) and the Grand Consolation (a high-stakes battle for those coveted next  top spots).

It was a true battlefield out there, and we threw down an amazing performance to take the win, sharing a beautiful, hard-fought race with our closest rivals.

It felt especially good after last year’s version of this race ended in considerably more chaos than anyone had planned for. If you know, you know; and if you don’t? Here’s a trip down memory lane!).

One of the best parts of Super Sprints is the atmosphere. The docks are busy, there’s always teams heading to and from the water; wishing each other a great race, swapping info about the waves and the water, and giving each other high fives for their achievements!

Across all three races, SOS  kept the pressure on and put together a strong day of racing against some of the strongest teams on the water. That friendly rivalry definitely brings out the best racing and the Grand Consolation win felt like a real step forward for the team.

Huge thanks to Fairway Gorge Paddling Club and all the volunteers for running another fantastic event, and big love to Coach Lesley, Vince for mastering the dreaded ‘Washing Machine’, and our awesome Race Managers of course!

Now everybody can stop replaying starts in their heads…. Until practice that is!
